Katie works in the Athletics Department at Unity Christian High School and serves as a leader of the worship team at Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven, MI.
Read Ephesians 2:8-9
What’s your favorite gift you’ve ever received? Maybe it was a gift that you received a long time ago as a child. If you received that gift now, it might not mean much, but at the time, it lit up your entire world. Maybe the gift was an experience - tickets to see your favorite band or a show that you love.
This Christmas, I was given one of my favorite gifts I’ve received in a long time. My husband, Cam, gave me a record player, along with a few records to start off my collection. I have a deep love for music and am always playing music in the house. Cam knows this and knows that the record player is something that I’d love. He knew that I’d love to grow my collection and search for records from my favorite artists. He also knew that I’d want the record player to look nice in our living room, so he spent time finding the right one to be on display.
I love the gift. We’ve already had some wonderful nights together as a family with a record playing in the background. While I do love the record player itself, I treasure even more the memories that will be made in our home to the soundtrack of its music.
We give gifts out of love. Thoughtfully choosing gifts for a person shows that we care for them and understand them enough to know what will bring joy.
The gift of God’s grace comes to us fully out of his love for us. We have done absolutely nothing to earn it - no amount of good that we do in our lives can earn us more grace. And thankfully, no amount of bad that we do results in God offering less grace. The gift comes fully to us, if we receive it. Our faith in Jesus results in an eternity that is far greater than we can ever imagine.
Take a moment today to thank God for his gift of grace!
