Read Psalm 89:1-18
When I was a child, my younger brother and I would tend to have our disagreements. These disagreements led to some healthy brother fights. Most of the time I would win, in fact all the time I would win, at least in my mind. I felt that if my brother was wrong, it was my duty to prove him he was wrong and I was right! I needed to make sure things were right and that whatever was out of place was fixed. However, my parents would always step in at the right time. It was like they knew what I was thinking! My parents would pull me aside and tell me “We are his parents, not you. We choose if he is in trouble or not, not you!
Sometimes we think we are the right people to determine how and when justice is served. As we look at Psalm 89, we are reminded of some very important things. We know God to be love, merciful, gracious, and everlasting, However, God is also just and righteous just as verse 14 tells us. There are times in which we want God to serve justice on this world, and he will in his timing. We would think that we should be very worried for when God will display his justice because of the weight of our sin, but because of Jesus we do not have to fear! Let us not forget that God’s justice will be displayed for all to see, and because of Jesus we have been made righteous.
