Colossians 3:17
7 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
This is one of the most famous passages used when discussing work. We are to honor God and show Him to those around us by what we do.
This reveals another aspect of work that we have not talked about previously.
We have discussed that our calling is to be witnesses to those around us. We talked about the work the Lord does inside of us to produce fruits of the spirit. We also talked about how our different talents together are effective at growing His Kingdom.
Though all the previous topics have touched on it, we have not yet discussed the attitude behind our work. We know what we should or should not do. We know our tasks and what we should be doing to complete our goals. We have a series of tasks on our list, including our spiritual lives. Having Bible time, worship, and giving as part of a routine is a good way of ensuring that you spend ample time doing things that bring you closer to God. However, routines can become dangerous when these habits become checklist items.
We must prioritize growing our relationship with God. That, in turn, leads us into gratefulness for our covenant relationship with Him, which spreads into other areas of our life. As the Fruits of the Spirit are grown in us, we begin to act differently. We bring gratitude. We bring joy, kindness, patience, love, peace, loyalty, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23) to everywhere we go. This includes our work setting, academic settings, and the relationships we have. All of this is rooted in gratefulness for our Creator. Hopefully, these ripples touch those around you.
Our attitude must be different so that the world may know that we are different.
